Oveja Blanca - Moscatel
Oveja Blanca Muscat - is a classic of region, Uclés, with cool vineyards at 700-900 metres altitude.
Based in Castilla la Mancha, Central Spain, Fontana Bodegas owns 600 and manages 400 hectares of high-altitude, sustainably farmed vineyards. The wines from Uclés, which include Oveja Tinta, are grown at a height of 700-900 metres. The winemaking team of oenologist Tomás Buendia and Master of Wine Sam Harrop aim to produce wines that offer an interesting modern take on local wine traditions, giving both a sense of place and remarkable value.
Fontana manages its estates sustainably, applying technology judiciously where it is felt to make a contribution to more responsible agriculture, and where it will help to craft more authentic and expressive wines.
This is an elegant example of Dry Muscat, showing the freshness and balance of high altitude vineyards. Pale, bright yellow, intensely aromatic and expressive on the nose, with aromas reminiscent of lychees, grapefruit and rose petals. Light bodied and very fresh on the palate, the intense fruit perfectly balanced by the crisp acidity and a dry, mineral finish. A great aperitif and alternative to more mainstream grape varieties, to match dishes with personality.
